Desi Fontaine Hon FMPA

Originally self taught from an early age and setting up my own studio, I have trained in the USA at the Santa Fe School of Photography and attended countless seminars in order to keep attaining higher standards. At the age of 40 I undertook a 4 year BA(Hons) degree at the University of Westminster. I taught as a tutor for Charlie Waite’s Light and Land for about 7 or eight years and have mentored and judged for the MPA for around 10 or 12 years including judging abroad. I have taught at Photo Training overseas and mentored members for Associate and Fellowship Qualifications. I am a past President of the MPA as well as having been Head of A and F Qualificationd for 2 years. I run workshops and private mentoring at my studio.

There is nothing that gives me more pleasure than helping aspiring and emerging photographers to improve their photography and to develop their own style. Whether they are just starting out or whether they have been photographing for a while but cannot seem to be able to get to the next level, I am more than happy to help them push their technique and edge up slowly but surely to the next level. There is nothing more satisfying for me than seeing the hard work that they are putting in to this. The determination and hunger to improve their photographic journey is really exciting for me to see. The icing on the cake is seeing their work scoring well in competitions and when they gain their Qualifications I am as proud as I am of my own children. However if this is all going slowly for them or the do not pass, I like to be there to support them, not let them get disheartened but help them mentally and technically to keep going till they succeed.

I have been so passionate about photography since a very young age .It has always fascinated me. It has been the most important and most constant love of my life outside my family. I cannot draw or paint but I constantly watch people and imagine how I could portray them in an honest but flattering way.I love the creativity, I love watching how light changes the face and body. I also love travel and film and both of these things have had and continue to have a big effect on my work .I love the interaction with people and the creation of something pleasing, exciting and unusual.
